ADL Banquet Recap (May 5th, 2012)
Well, another successful darting season is in the books and come to a close.
We had a great season despite our membership being down a bit. We can do better to build this league back up to where we used to be. Each of us needs to reach out to some of the guys who used to play and find out what we can do to bring them back. Ask them to rejoin the league and help us build this league back into the power house it used to be.
That said, we had a very good year and some people made some great strides in their game. Dan Loucks stroked 54 write-ups to win the Phil Doing Award, which goes to the member who has the most write-ups in a season. Along with that award he also took home three patches each for T-80 & 3-Trips. Chris Phillips had an outstanding year for a relatively new guy to the darting scene. Chris finished in the Top 10 in write-ups but more impressively hit 2x each for T-80 & 3-Trips.
Along with handing out all of our awards and trophies, we also started something new. An Ashtabula Dart League Hall of Fame. It was the brain-child of Wayne Lett and the eligible recipients came from this past years board. To get into the ADL Hall of Fame, a person must not only be a valid shooter, but give unselfishly to the league and the betterment of the game. Always doing what is right for the advancement of darts and not for personal gain. At least that was the initial requirement we were looking for for this inaugural class. We think we chose wisely and we are proud to have these guys forever sake our league in the Hall of Fame.
The first recipient to get into the ADL Hall of Fame was Phil Doing. Phil left this earth before anyone ever thought however his life and presence in the ADL continues in the way his children and grandchildren handle themselves and play the game. Phil did so much for the morale of the game and always offered a tip or advice to even the person who was playing against him, that was just the kind of person he was. Always giving, never expecting anything in return. His memory will grace us always as the first recipient into the ADL Hall of Fame.
Our second recipient has given so much of himself to the league for so long. As one of the original founding members, his wife tells us that since there weren't any computers she and him would have to do all the stats by hand. They did it out of love for the game. Over the years he always has been a friend of the league and offered up advice freely to promote the league and help take our ideas and put them over the top. He's held just about every office in the ADL and this year was just voted in as our new Vice President, Bruce Campbell. It's an honor to have him in the Hall of Fame.
Finally, our next recipient into the ADL Hall of Fame has been our Vice President for as long as anyone can remember and served as President for 2 years before stepping down. While he may have stepped down from office, he has always helped guide us from afar and is always still willing to help the ADL board members in any endeavor that comes up. From setting up for an event to helping with Blind Draws, Roy Bobbitt, Jr has been there for the league. He gives his time and thoughts freely and always looks out for the best interests of everyone. We couldn't think of anyone more fitting to enter the Hall of Fame in it's first year. The ADL is blessed to have him roam the Halls of Fame.
Congratulations to Phil's Family, Bruce, and Roy and Welcome to the ADL Hall of Fame!
Voting took place for a new ADL Board and we're excited to announce the results of the voting and introduce your new Board Members.
